Crucian Lake
The ‘L’ shaped crucian lake is just over 1 acre with a large island which divides the water into two distinct parts; a shallow siltier end full of lily pads and marginal plants resembling the typical habitats of a secluded farm pond and a deeper gravelly end with a smooth sandy bottom interspersed with clay & silty spots.
As with the main lake, the swims on the crucian lake have been selectively placed to ensure every angler has plenty of his own water to fish but they are also large enough that you can fish side by side with your fishing buddy and have a chat as to how your day is progressing.
The lake holds a plentiful stock of crucians with the larger original stock coming out at a few ounces over 2lbs. These fish have bred well leading to a nice variety of different sizes. The average size in the lake is now well over 1lb and any fish caught under 1lb will have been spawned in the lake.
Although we call it the crucian lake, the lake also has a significant head of tench which were stocked at the same time as the crucians. The majority of these tench are over the 2lb mark with a few larger ones topping out at around 4lb. Any fish caught under 2lb would again have been spawned in the lake.
A healthy roach population can keep your day varied and interesting. By using different baits, you have the opportunity to try and target specific species. Small, friendly matches on this lake have yielded 20lb + nets of roach in a session.
