Being one of the older gravel pits in the Cotswold Water Park, the 6.5 acre main lake was dug using a traditional drag line method. This has created an interesting lake bed with many varied features ranging from deep smooth clay areas and silty gullies to shallow gravelly plateaus.

With an abundance of lily pads and varied weed life, the lake is a perfect environment for the fish to thrive.

There are over a dozen swims available, each with their own unique features, giving you the opportunity to fish in the style you prefer. This is part of our vision to create an old style, traditional fishery where you can fish for a variety of species instead of the multiple carp only fisheries aimed at the modern angler.

Whilst the main lake has over a dozen swims, we generally book out to groups of between four and six anglers. Our ethos is to not pack anglers in to every swim but to give you the freedom to move if you feel the need. This also allows you to take advantage of the many stalking opportunities that the shape and layout of the lake offers you.

We have chosen to stock various different strains of carp in Netherwood Lakes so every fish has different characteristics.

These range from glorious dark commons to heavily scaled mirrors and then the lesser scaled mirrors of times gone by.

We also decided to grow our fish on in the lake naturally instead of buying in higher weight farmed fish. We believe that this is the better way to go and although it has taken some time, the carp in the main lake now go up to just over 35lbs.

Main Lake

We have an exceptional stock of young, lean, hard fighting tench with an average size of around 4.5lb and the largest to date coming out at just over 7lb. These beautiful specimens can be caught either using traditional methods of a float cast to the side of one of the many lily beds or alternatively using the more modern day techniques of a method feeder and small wafter hook bait. Both methods produce equal amounts of fish although the method feeder with a heavier line tends to work better to combat those pesky carp!

“…walking around with a fly rod, perch & roach snaffled my wet fly in beautifully clear water ”

Dom Garnett, Angling Times

“If a well managed mixed fishery in beautiful surroundings is what you are after then I strongly recommend you give Netherwood a try. I promise you won’t be disappointed!”

Martin Salter, Angling Trust

And there’s still more fun to be had!

With a large head of good sized roach and an equally good head of pike & perch, the venue has a variety of stock to keep everyone happy.
